Thanks. As a follow up to this, my motherboard is a 088DT1. Thanks.ĭoes this seem reasonable? Any advice would be appreciated. I could even get a small SSD for relatively cheap and improve load/turn times.ĭoes this seem reasonable? Any advice would be appreciated. I thought this might give me a decent boost when playing Rome 2 (probably the most intense game I play as I have mostly RTSs) and also allow me to practice overclocking on my current rig before upgrading.

Per cpubenchmark this appears to be a decent upgrade over what I have single core around 23% improvement, quad core 25% improvement, multi-core 26% improvement and 31%, 36%, and 37%, respectively, when overclocking. I was browsing the Facebook market and noted someone selling an i5-4690k with stock cooler for 80$ reportedly has never been overclocked. I have never built a computer before but am looking forward to it.

I am eventually planning on building a new computer this summer when the Ryzen 3000 series comes out. I can play Rome 2 on medium/high settings fairly well but things do get laggy and fps drops to 20-30 typically. I currently have an I5-4460 with 8 gb DDR3 RAM and a GTX 1050. I have lurked on this forum for some time but was looking for some help and didn't want to create a new thread. Ever since, CA has been patching up Warscape, with somewhat better multicore handling added in Shogun 2 I think, but due to time and expenses necessary, they're milking the Warspace for every last drop while (presumably) developing a new engine, but that's a long process. Virtually all indie and smaller companies lack capabilities to produce their own engine or paying for use of newest engines developed by other companies, which is why they're limited to older ones.ĮTW and every following TW run on Warscape engine, which had AFAIK some rudimental provisions for up to 4 cores, but was still designed with "potatoes"-single core CPUs-in mind, as they were still majority of computers in use at that time. And development of new engine is very long process, which is why it's not uncommon for a successful engine to be used for a decade or more, even "rented" to other companies.the various iterations of Unreal engine are well known example. While it's often possible to "patch up" the engine to make use of it, it won't be as effective.

Very simply, to fully utilize the multicore architecture, the engine must be designed for it from the scratch.
